Welcome to the Beaver Colony

We are the youngest section in the Scout Movement and, as a Colony we try to encourage fun and friendship, and key elements of citizenship. We actively encourage the young Beavers to mix within the colony, to share and communicate well with other members of our colony and when on district events, with other Beavers. Preston District holds regular Beaver Scout events so that we can meet other beaver scouts colonies which is a great introduction to the local family of Scouting and a real feel for the camaraderie of being part of a Scout Group and the family of Scouting.

The Programme

At 5th Preston Beavers, we try to have fun at the same time as learning something new. Our aim is for every Beaver Scout to receive the prestigious Chief Scout’s Bronze Award before moving up to the Cub Section.

To do this, Beaver Scouts have 6 challenge badges that they need to complete: Friendship, Creative, Fitness, Global, Promise and Outdoor.

Other activity badges we run with are: animal friend, creative, experiment, explore and faith. There are other staged badges that the Beavers can cover over a period of time, such as swimmer & music. We work on a programme that is fun with an education element as well.

Our Beavers are often occupied with crafts and games (as well as the programme challenges). We take part in all the District organised events including Fun days, visits and a Christmas party.

Beaver Scouts have recently been given permission to camp certification so this means that Beavers can now camp outdoors for one night, so to add to the excitement we try hold an annual camp out with the Cub section and join in activites together.

Why not join us?

If you’re interested in becoming a Beaver, please get in contact. You must be prepared to have fun, enjoy being outdoors and join in on activities to get the most out of Scouting and gain key skills for life.

Beavers meet every Monday during term time 6.30pm – 7.30pm
